Circle, Big Ben, Parliament Wheel of demos Investigate every. Single. Option. Don’t ask for help

1. Areas of necessity Determine what is MOST important to your organization Conduct interviews with various key players from your organization (this will also help to gain future buy in for your solution) Include IT – they are your friends
5
2. Key Stakeholder – find one! You will need someone internally to rally around your cause They must see and feel the need for a solution (CFO, CEO, VP of Finance – not HR and preferably a numbers guy)
6
3. Ask the Vendor the RIGHT Questions What is your customer retention? Why do you lose customers? What is the biggest feature that you wish the software had, but doesn’t? Do you use your own software internally? Will this solution grow with my organization? We use x,y,z for our current process – how will your solution save me time and resources?
7
4. Referral Calls Where the Rubber meets the Road: Make sure you listen more, talk less – allow the person to share their experience whether or not it relates to you today Don’t settle until you speak with at least 3 to 5 individuals for each software solution Keep the contact information of the people you speak to- you might need it later
8
Don’t forget LinkedIn Rely on your network for information, referrals and recommendations These are people who you know and trust They also know you and can speak your language (i.e. they may have already gone through a similar project and can provide resources, questions, answers)
9
5. Pursue Excellence not Perfection Make a selection and stick with it Go with your gut instinct – it’s usually right Have key stakeholder support Communicate the decision to those involved in the process
