3. It was in November 1620. A small ship “ The Mayflower” left England to reach America. In January 1621 they built their village, when winter came the life became very hard and many of the settles died. One day some Indians came. They called the English people “yankee”, since that time it has become the name of a white man in America. In spring people began to plant corn and maize, as Indians taught them. In autumn the crops were very good and it was decided to make a holiday dinner. Some Indians came and brought wild turkeys as a present. The harvest was called “ THANKSGIVING DAY “. It is celebrated on the 4 th Thursday in NOVEMBER. The English settlers who came to AMERICA on the ship the ‘MAYFLOWER’ are usually called THE PILGRIM FATHERS.
