The House of Burgesses The colonists will plant mulberry trees and grape vines. Penalties will be imposed for drunkenness, idleness, and gambling. The colonists will attend church twice on Sunday. They will bring their guns and swords with them. No injury or oppression be committed by the English against the Indians. Laws

The House of Burgesses (Jamestown) Mayflower Compact (Plymouth ) July 30, 1619 Consisted of a Governor, a council of six, and 22 landowners. November 11, 1620 Signed by men; Pilgrims and non-Pilgrims. First order of business was to set a price for the sale of tobacco. Created laws for the Virginia colony. United in a civil body politic. Insured the “the general Good of the Colony.”
