Eduardo is a 7 th Grade Student at Berkshire Middle School. He is an adopted student from Peru, with LRC services, with learning disabilities in reading and writing. Joey also is being raised by his two moms. He is a fantastic young man that gives his best to be successful everyday. Eduardo, age 13

Conditions Students in our social studies class is exposed to our outstanding curriculum for 56 minutes everday. Our key resources include our TCI Geography Alive Program, which can include the textbook, online website with resources, and the Interactive Student Notebook (ISN). The materials are very user – friendly, with real-world connections made with every lesson. The website offers several tools to ensure that the students understand the material within the text

Conditions Continued All of the TCI Materials are aligned to Michigan Social Studies and shows which standards are used in each lesson. The TCI Program is very simple to use for both the teacher and the student, and keeps all material on the website password-protected for privacy.

Foundational Skills & Concepts The ability to read a map and analyze it for information Understand the 5 Themes of Geography (Location, Place, Human-Environment Interaction, Movement, and Region) Being able to read and summarize informational text from both primary and secondary sources Developing a claim and supporting it with evidence Analyze and decode charts and graphs for specific data Bullet 4-5 concepts/skills that would be most beneficial for students to know and be able to do before they enter your class/grade level.

The 7 th Grade Social Studies Curriculum in Birmingham Public Schools helps our students build strong tools for, and methods of, clear and disciplined thinking in order to traverse successfully the worlds of each students’ future, whether it is in high school, college, career, or civic life
