2. 2 HBD Group Bring East HBD Back to SBU East detector has been troublesome –15% dead in May 2009 –5% dead in June 2009 Cause is known: West detector built using intrinsically cleaner and quicker procedure Solution: Bring the East Home, swap out bad GEMs

3. 3 Matt Climbing the Walls Prior to shipping of the HBD back to SBU, Matt and his crew cleaned the tent thoroughly. Access to the coarse filters is from above. No, he didn’t fall!

4. 4 New GEMs Required Resistors Here Matt and Benji are putting resistors on fresh GEMs constructed at WIS. All this work went smoothly. These and the original GEMs from the detector were all washed in DI water.

5. 5 Source Removal The HBD contains two radioactive sources, both contained in the so-called CUBE. To avoid expensive transport the CUBE was removed at BNL Instr. Clean room.

6. 6 De-combobulation All the GEMs were removed & washed. Most that were trouble in Run-9 did not recover with washing. All Au GEMs washed same day as transport. It is important to get the CsI off right away as it becomes resistive in air. No visual evidence of the source of MESH-GEM short.

7. 7 Re-combobulation All Cu GEMs have been replaced in the HBD and tested good at 550 V in air. HBD with all Cu GEMs is presently in the glovebox. As always, a fresh HBD is a water load on the Glovebox. Water levels now good.

8. 8 Evaporation. The first test evaporation showed excellent QE. 4 Au GEMs have a complete evap and will be installed today. 6 more to go…

9. 9 LEGS Running Recirculating Helium through closed loop (no HBD) All systems working. Fresh scrubbers (9-8-2009) Benji updated LabVIEW display to highlight true path of gas (what we use) and indicate our past plumbing changes. Water Oxygen

10. 10 Anticipated Schedule Full GEMs installed by next week. This leaves extra time for HV testing. We no reason that the HBD would return later than the end of the month. Matt Durham Smiling
