ME 4182 Senior Design 3 Possible Engineering & Manufacturing Issues Cantilevering Pneumatic Cylinder - stiff mounting needed to handle moment - possible bending in the cylinder (overhang) Actuator/Gate connection - connection method must handle large stress Sizing the Cylinder - Originally needed to be sized for 400 ft-lbs - After sizing cylinder and speaking with others in the field, we may not need to account for 400 ft-lbs - needed to commit to required torque to size (difficult to determine worst case based on different load conditions - effect on mounting
