Oh, no ! You have to make an INSTRUMENT.
2
Make a Musical Instrument Play a recognizable melody by yourself Don’t tell us what the song is before you play it – we have to figure it out So you can’t play a fake song and tell us it’s the national anthem of Lower Slobovia, where your grandma is from.
3
Your instrument must be Essentially homemade Could use guitar strings Couldn’t use the xylophone keys off a kids toy, remounted on a box Could use a trombone mouthpiece Some part of the frequency-producing or selecting part MUST be made by YOU
4
The old “rubber band over a tissue box” trick You better spend more than 5 minutes on this You better make some NOTES (different frequencies) that »WE CAN HEAR »YOU CAN RECORD
5
There’s a huge difference between playing a recognizable RHYTHM & a recognizable MELODY, with different frequencies. Banging out Yankee Doodle on a can does not in any way qualify. Sorry.
6
Individual performance: Tuesday, MARCH 20 You & your song. You must have at least 4 notes. This would rule out “Hot Cross Buns”. Sorry.
7
Group Performance: extra credit @ least 3 people in the band original composition of at least 30 seconds per member Sometime B4 spring break
8
We will spend mass time in class working with sound, including learning to use technology to record & tune your instrument.
