11 Same comment on the Daicui email of Sun, December 13, 2009 5:18 pm We are very glad to confirm here that we do provide the contribution of a supermodule of the DCAL The whole Collaboration (Alice) is grateful to the China Institutions for the one SM DCAL funding.

12 “Please help to fill all the cost number corresponding to the different parts of a supermodule in the form for China, which will be provided and constructed by China (currently by CCNU team mainly ).” It is unclear to me !! supermodule will be constructed in China by CCNU team mainly ?? This means that parts may be constructed in China ? In the july 9th JCAL meeting at Cern have been clear stressed that such solution will NOT be accepted.

13 Start a new procedure to validate new parts production will take the same time we have dedicated to the EMCAL production “At least six months” I remind you the single operation made for getting our finals F-C-B plates parts in the requested shape. Meccanotecnica work centre 1)First sample production and sizes control in LNF Frascati Italy 2) modification of machining methods a) improve the quality of used tools (several tests) tools breaking during the performance of the 144 holes b) search for the best speediness of rotating tools in order to go inside the requested tolerances and c) strongly reduced the breaking Meccanotecnica invested money and time in order to reach the satisfactory results

14 At any Meccanotecnica modification the plate reached the LNF to be submitted to a new size control !! And so on ! We start the optimization procedure in nov 2006 and get the best and accepted machining procedure in may 2007 !!!! B3 and SM cradle optimization procedure. It has taken six months to !!

15 TRANSLATION OF drawings from English or French in Chinese ! We need to be sure that translation is correct !!! Please suggest the appropriate method to guarantee that translation will work! Please, ask to Manoel and Joseph their opinion on that

16 My conclusion for fabrication parts in China Is THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TIME. We have few months of the next 2010 And they have to used only for assembly and testing the detectors.

17 Let come now to the assembly operation in China. The only possible operation should be the Module assembly, BUT: Construction of new assembly tooling in China by Chinese plants evidenced the same problem just listed in the previous page: drawing translations, verification of the correctness of the translation, validation of the new assembly station by the standard and already applied test. (see Manoel, Joseph and Pasquale)

18 How many Chinese people have already participate to the Module assembly procedure ? We (in Catania) have spent two months before have reliable manpower to correctly assembly the Modules ! Validation has taken three trips of Pasquale from Frascati to Catania

19 First assembly has taken four hours ! Now the cost in time is one and half hours with two persons strongly coordinating their own related single operation ! For Strip assembly see Manoel, Joseph and Alessandra. They will explain how much time is nedeed to learn the technique.

20 My conclusion are included in my proposal. Actually, in Catania, we produce 10 Modules per week. Taking into account dead time due to vacations, hilliness, coffee break et aob we need 25 weeks to assembly 192 Modules and 16 STRIPS. But producing 14 Modules per week with a reduction of the dead time we may produce 32 STRIPS in 30 Weeks.

21 Such result could be reached if two full time technicians will be added to the Catania manpower. In case this manpower should be provided by Chinese Institutions the Chinese SM will be assembled in Catania
