4 March 10 Journal: (We’re going to conduct a Minimalist experiment!) Make sure you have your notebook & pencil. Agenda: -Journal/ Minimalist experiment -Character Notes -Story Review -Judging -Reflection

5 Minimalist Experiment Observe an event. (We’re going to observe 2 nd lunch shift.) Write 5 20-word sentences describing the event. Pay attention to detail!

6 Minimalist Experiment Re-read your sentences. Cut out words so they only use 11-13 words each.

7 Minimalist Experiment Now re-write those sentences so you only have 4 sentences. (Don’t lose any of the main ideas!)

8 Minimalist Experiment Now, cut those 4 sentences down into 10-12 words total.

11 Flat or Round? Static or Dynamic? Flat & Static Characters = minor characters who does not change or grow in a story Round & Dynamic Characters = Major character who encounters conflict and is changed by it.

13 Story Review TitleWhat it’s about:ThemeWould you recommend it? What kind of person would enjoy it? “The Utterly Perfect Murder” Seeking revenge 36 years after being bullied as a child. What goes around comes around. Someone who was bullied (similar experiences). “Salvation”A young boy wanting to find Jesus, but doesn’t find him and then lies about his experience. Salvation can come from within rather than a higher power. People who are conflicted between religion and atheism. An atheist.
