3 What do you know about sisters, brothers, and priests who belong to religious communities?  Those living the “religious life” totally surrender their lives to please God. They live totally for the kingdom— centering their lives solely on God.

5 List characteristics of religious  Dedicates life to God’s service  Follows teachings and example of Christ  Makes public vows or promises  Joins in a common work  May be a priest, deacon, brother, or sister  Shares in mission of Christ and his Church  Belongs to a community

6 What is a “vow”?  A deliberate and free promise made to God by people who want especially to dedicate their lives to God.  What vows do religious usually make? Poverty Chastity Obedience

7 Match each verse to one of the three vows  Matt. 8:20  Matt. 19:21  Mark 14: 35-36  John 4:33-34  1 Cor. 7:32-34

8 How does living these vows help religious to serve others?  Chastity Allows religious to love God with undivided hearts and to tend to the needs of all people  Poverty Permits them to live simply and to share their talents.  Obedience By being at God’s disposal and by obeying authority as to how and where to work, the members of a religious community combine their talents to serve God and others to the fullest
