3 During 2010-2011 School year All 10 th graders are in general course. AP seminar students meet after school for additional instruction, films, discussion and testing. No grades, only personal portfolio measures growth. July, 2011 - Successful results on AP test (grade of 3,4, or 5 out of a possible 5) will enable me to change designation of course to AP European History.

4 Getting Started this Summer We’ve already studied the material at a challenging high school level. I assign readings, films, video lectures, and questions commensurate with college- level coursework. We meet in seminars to discuss readings. End of-summer practice AP test.

5 The Test The AP European History Exam is 3 hours and 5 minutes long and covers a full-year introductory college course. The exam contains: –Fifty-five minutes to do 80 multiple-choice questions –A 15-minute reading period –A 45-minute Document-Based Question (DBQ) –Two 35-minute thematic essays chosen from several options Questions on intellectual-cultural, political-diplomatic, and social- economic history form the basis of every section of the exam.

7 Getting a “feel” for AP rigor Participating schools and AP teachers: –Do not control the curriculum –Do not control the grading standards This approach gives you “an out” without penalty This endeavor is a labor of love on all of our parts!
