ingenious-science.eu European Coordination Body for STEM education

ingenious-science.eu Most significant project ever funded by European Commission FP7 Science in Society programme targeting education € 8.3 M – 50% from EC funding inGenious Unique consortium due to: Career focus Industry engagement Pilot with 180 teachers selected each year- test and evaluate industry STEM education materials and activities -more than 12,000 pupils directly involved

ingenious-science.eu Opportunities and advantages for teachers Teaching materials and Practices available on inGenious portal: ingenious-science.eu Israeli teachers and students in inGenious during 2012-2014 2012-2013: 6 teachers 2013-2014: 11 teachers In 2 years: approximately 1000 out of 5000 Israeli students reached (based on the number of questionnaires they have been filled in so the real number might be higher)

ingenious-science.eu The highest interest in mathematics was reported by teachers from Northern Europe (56%), and Israel (55%). Teachers’ achievements and results Pilot teachers in the South and EU partner countries were more likely to hold senior positions in schools, e.g. head of science department or subject lead. Hence, they were more likely to engage other STEM teachers and seek collaboration with other departments or school leadership than their colleagues in Northern Europe. Total Number of Collected Practices - 152 Practices tested by Israeli teachers - 7

ingenious-science.eu Teachers’ achievements and results  Motivation for STEM jobs was significantly higher among students in the south of Europe and in Israel (66%) compared to the North Europe”  In Israel more that 86% of teachers have stated the inGenious and its activities had medium/high impact to their teaching and pupils

The portal OBJECTIVES: Engage wide public in a dialogue about nanotechnologies Collect and understand citizens knowledge, opinions and attitudes towards nanotechnologies Promote teaching about nanotechnologies in schools http://nanopinion.eu/

Education section: http://www.nanopinion.eu/ en/education of the NanOpinion portal with all the tools (experiments, Moodle course, videos, teacher guide). http://www.nanopinion.eu/ en/education Israeli teachers in Nanopinion Total of trained teachers: 19 (16 were trained face to face in Israel and then 10 of them participated also in an online training) Total of trained students: 125 (Students were all from Ort Givataym school in Givataym, 16-17 years old. They worked on modules on drug delivery & smart surface, saw the Nanopinion videos and carried out the Discussion game) Nanopinion was also present in local events, material was disseminated etc. Opportunities and advantages for teachers

Scientix 2 | Gina Mihai 18/03/2015 | Ramat Gan Scientix National Conference in Israel 26 Opportunities and advantages for teachers Participate in face to face Scientix workshops and online webinars The Science Projects Workshops in the Future Classroom Lab (SPW@FCL) bring together STEM teachers working on different EC funded projects. The programme always includes general sessions designed by the lead project, as well as presentations by the collaborating projects. Parallel sessions with specific programmes for each project also take place. The workshops encourage the integration of the projects’ content and best practices into the setting and facilities of the FCL.
