2 Marksmanship Opportunities  Compete in JROTC Postals  Become a JROTC Rifle Team Member  Compete in Junior Postal Matches  Qualify to compete in JROTC Championships  Attend Junior Shooting Camps or Clinics  Compete in Open Junior Competitions  Obtain personal shooting equipment—train at home  Earn the Junior Distinguished Badge  Shoot on a college rifle team  Earn a Shooting Scholarship  Go for the Gold! Make the USA Shooting Team

3 Compete in JROTC Postals  Open to all JROTC units with marksmanship—participation by all cadets with 3-position experience is encouraged  All cadets fire a 3x10 course of fire in the sporter or precision class  National and Brigade/Area/Region rankings for all participating unit teams and individual cadets  Shot group printouts available  Top unit teams and at-large individuals qualify for JROTC Service Championships

4 JROTC Postal Rules  Postals for Army, USMC, Navy and Air Force JROTC  Open to all JROTC units with marksmanship  Administration by CMP:  Enter on-line after 1 October (on-line team entry)  Official targets with pre-printed names provided  Fire on home range and return targets NLT 4Dec09  Targets scored with Orion VIS, challenges end on 18Dec09  Team Rules:  Units may fire as many cadets as they wish  Top four sporter or precision scores count as team score  Navy & USMC: Next four scores count as 2 nd team, etc.

5 JROTC Rifle Teams  Goal: Offer competition opportunities to cadets who want to participate in competitions  Team: 6-12 cadets, depends on range size  Selection: Interest & work ethic are keys  Season: Sep/Oct to March (Typical)  Practice: Establish regular time, 2-5 times/week  Competition Rifles: Gas sporter or precision  Pellets: Test and match to rifles  Equipment: Team needs spotting scopes, jackets/trousers for precision rifle shooters, etc.

7 Building Team Support  School Officials: Keep them informed, invite them to visit  Parents/Booster Club: Involve parents & community supporters in team activities  Fund Raising: Raise funds to purchase better equipment, support travel to camps, competitions  Community Relationships: Conservation organizations (SCI, NWTF, RMEF, DU, etc.), NRA Foundation, shooting clubs, elected officials  Local Media: Provide information on competition results, team accomplishments

9 JROTC Championships  Qualifying: Army, USMC, Navy and USAF JROTC Postals (1 3x10)  JROTC Service Championships (2 3x20s + 1 Final)  Army, Camp Perry, 12-14Feb09  USMC/USAF, Camp Perry, 19-21Feb09  Navy, Camp Perry, 26-28Feb09  Top 4 sporter and top 4 precision teams in each service advance (top 2 USAF)  Top 6 sporter and top 6 precision at-large individuals in each service advance (top 2 USAF)  National JROTC Championship (2 3x20s + 2 Finals)  Fort Benning, 26-28Mar09

10 Junior Shooting Camps  CMP Junior Air Rifle Camps  Open to all juniors with 3- position training  8 5-day camps taught by U. S. Olympians and college rifle shooters  Information at www.odcmp.com www.odcmp.com  Other Junior camps are sponsored by USA Shooting and NRA

11 Compete in Open Junior Championships  American Legion Postal & National Championship  U. S. Army Postal and National Tournament  Junior Olympic State and National Championship  Daisy National Air Gun Championship  NRA Air Rifle Sectionals & Nationals

12 Obtain Personal Equipment  Cadets who want to advance, compete in open events or shoot in college should consider obtaining their own rifles and equipment  Precision air rifles are needed for open events and college shooting  Personal equipment supports all-year and home training  Major step up in personal advancement

14 College Rifle Shooting  Rifle is NCAA winter sport  44 NCAA varsity rifle teams, supported by Athletic Departments  Other schools with club rifle teams  Standard events: 60 air rifle standing plus 3x20 smallbore at 50 feet  College shooting offers scholarship and team walk-on opportunities

Army International Rifle Team  Based at Fort Benning, Georgia  Selections based on competitive results  20-year Army enlisted careers are possible  USOTC Resident Athlete Program  Full-time training at Olympic Training Center  USA National Teams  Support provided by USOC and USAS for training and competitions  Selected in trials for USA Olympic, World Championship and Continental Championship Teams
