1 Welcome to the 8 th Grade Parent Information Night

2 St. Augustine Cathedral School Mission Statement St. Augustine Cathedral School, in partnership with parents and the Catholic Church, welcomes and shapes young people as they grow in faith, knowledge and stewardship.

3 Come celebrate our school community Friday, November 6, 6pm in the Crowley Center! We’re inviting you for hors d’oeuvres, drinks and dinner. Our keynote speaker is Paco Gavrilides of Sacred Heart Seminary. We always round out the evening with music and dancing.

4 Curriculum Items of Special Note: The Diocese of Kalamazoo adheres to Diocesan based standards that meet the needs of students Math homework is based on the day’s lesson Spelling/Vocabulary is taught within the reading program ELA focuses on reading comprehension, spelling/vocabulary, grammar, and writing Our school-wide Theology focus is The Year of Mercy Family Theology books

6 MAP Testing MAP continues this year Three 1-hour tests 24 hour feedback Individual tracking – Goal setting – September, January, and May testing dates – October conferences

7 Grading 90% of report card grade is based on summative assessments (Tests, quizzes, papers, projects) 10% of report card is based on formative assessments (Homework, classwork) Students with late homework will need to stay in for Lunch-N-Learn to complete Grades can be viewed on Power School, which is updated at least weekly

8 CHAMPS School-wide classroom management system Specific to each activity, very detailed expectations C=Conversation level H=How to seek help A=Activity expectations M=Movement around room P=Participation for active involvement

9 Eighth Grade Specifics Room Parent (Meulman) Midterms and finals Service Projects – Poinsettia sales in November (trip fundraising) – Senior brunch on Feast of Immaculate Conception Tuesday, December 8 – Pancake Breakfast – Sunday, January 31 – Family Fun Night – Friday, February 5 – School Family Leaders – 4 times per year

10 Confirmation Students will celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation at their home parish. This is the wish of the CSGK pastors. Your parish DRE will receive your child's name and be in contact with you regarding important dates and any parish requirements around Confirmation. If you do not receive any communication from your parish by the end of October, please contact the parish office and/or the DRE.

11 Confirmation Continued Confirmation preparation will happen within the 8th grade Theology program, with the support of Deacon Bruno and our local pastors. Parish DREs are all aware of the preparation in school. Parishes may, however, have additional requirements of their own Confirmation candidates, ex. sessions with parents or retreats.

12 GRADUATION Uniform Holiday Last day: Friday, June 3rd Cedar Point: Monday, June 6 th Graduation Practice: Tuesday, June 7 th 11:00- 1:00 and Bimbos for lunch Graduation: Tuesday, June 7 th Dance and Photo Booth
