3 CLO Students will read a poem to develop a working definition of the American Dream and apply knowledge of denotation and connotation to demonstrate control and understanding of the effect of diction choices while contrasting past and present views of the American Dream

4 9-2 Warm Up What emotions does the “Ellis Island” poem invoke in you as you read it? Why? Which parts of the poem create the most powerful images in your mind?
