4 Elementary Math Work – Spring 2013 Goals for Elementary Math Curriculum Guides: Simplicity Development of ‘I Can’ statements to better facilitate deeper understanding of the CC Standards. Alignment of current instructional resources to support the instruction of the CC Standards. Integration of Balanced Math Framework to better support the structure of the math block time. Streamline elementary curriculum documents for literacy, math, science, social studies and technology. Revise the structure of our curriculum guides as necessary to promote the Data Team process. Math Practice Standards – Guiding Principles of how to teach math in DMPS.

5 Elementary Math Work – Spring 2013 Math Common Core Team Curriculum Guide Team Assessment Team Team of 4 instructional coaches + Julie Hukee (AEA) Development of curriculum guide format. I Can Statement work Creation of DMPS Math Guiding Principles – Math Practice Standards Plan for the 2013 – 2014 Professional Development focused around the Common Core Weekly Meetings Team of coaches, teachers and representatives from SPED and ELL – to work on both literacy and math guides. Evaluate current + new instructional resources and align with the standards. Team will be the ambassadors for the curriculum guides. Collect Feedback Communicate a clear message. Meetings: 3/28, 4/18, 4/25 Team – interested? Evaluate current assessments in alignment with the common core. Evaluate data developed by the DMPS Assessment Team – reliability. Review Smarter Balance Assessment question types. Meetings: TBD
