ADVERB pp. 381-386 An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.

An adverb tells where, when, how, or to what extent (how much or how long). Where? They said the forest fire started here. The couple was married nearby.

WHEN? When? Louis promptly rounded up suspects. Then several suspects were questioned.

HOW? The accident occurredsuddenly. The prime minister spokecarefully.

To What Extent? Ms. Kwan was quite proud of the girls’ debate team. She has scarcely begun the math lesson.
