A VOLUNTEER SPECIALIST’S ROLE DURING A DISASTER

2-1-1’s Role 2-1-1 serves as a comprehensive and primary entry point into community service information and referral (I&R). In the event of a disaster, 2-1-1 will be there to connect callers to information, relief and recovery resources.

A Disaster Volunteer’s Role To provide up-to-date information to callers with disaster related services. Each volunteer is expected to: Provide information and referral as needed Document caller demographics, needs and referrals made Provide follow-up calls as required or necessary

Examples of Calls During a Disaster Location of Shelters Basic Needs: chain of aid and agencies giving help and eligibility Health Issues Volunteering & Donations Mental Health Issues Transportation (i.e. road closures, mass transit updates, etc.) Power Outages Debris Clean-up
