Algebra I This is a high school credit course Prerequisites Prerequisites: Students must earn an 85 or higher on the Orleans-Hanna assessment and an 85 or higher in their 7 th grade math course (S1). Data will be printed on students’ course selection sheet. The intention of this course is to prepare students for AP level math courses. Appeals: Appeals: If you wish to appeal this placement, please attach a note to your course selection sheet and return to Ms. Juniel. Decisions on appeals will be made after year-end grade averages and STAAR scores are available.

ELECTIVES Number elective choices in order of preference: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 on your course selection sheet. Please indicate your electives for 6 th & 7 th grade. Students may not get their 1 st choice due to availability. FULL YEAR ! Electives are for a FULL YEAR !

ELECTIVES Teen Leadership: Course Number: LS 1433 Selection based on a screening process. This course is a leadership class based on M. I. Flippen’s “Capturing Kids’ Hearts.” The course focuses on leadership skills, conflict resolution, tolerance and communication skills.

ELECTIVES SPANISH 1B & SPANISH 1 AD*: SPANISH 1B & SPANISH 1 AD*: These are high school credit courses Students who have successfully completed Spanish 1A in the 7 th grade must complete Spanish 1B in the 8 th grade in order to receive credit for Spanish I in high school Students may take Spanish 1 AD in the 8 th grade Students must take level II of the same language in 9 th grade

ELECTIVES SPANISH I - AD : Grades in 6 th and 7 th grade must be strong in order to have a chance of being successful. Spanish I is available in 8 th grade where students can earn 1 high school credit in 1 year.

ELECTIVES Spanish for Spanish Speakers : Spanish for Spanish Speakers : Students who are native speakers of Spanish may receive credit for Spanish I & II upon successful completion of this course in one year. The main objective of this course is to help students to continue to develop their heritage and linguistic and cultural skills in order to become fully bilingual and biliterate.

COURSE SELECTION PROCESS Students will be given a course selection sheet 1 week before they are scheduled to go into the computer lab with me to select their classes. They should bring their course selection sheet filled out and signed by you to the computer lab. We will select their courses on line. They will go to the Lab with their Texas History teacher. We will be in the labs on the 16 th, 17 th, 18 th and 19 th of February.

Important Course Selection Info When selecting electives, DON'T FORGET…….. 1. Top 2 elective choices go under (1st & 2nd choice) "Requested Courses" 2. Next 3 elective choices (3, 4, & 5) go under "Request Alternates" R 1st, 2nd, 3rd 3. Verify that selected course requests show a (R) and the alternate course request show as (numbers in the priority column – 1st, 2nd, 3rd)

Important Dates to Remember February 8 th -9 th – Students receive Course Selection Sheets from TX History teachers. February 9 th – 15 th – Students and parents complete and sign Course Request Sheet. February 16 th -19 th - Students in Computer Lab via TX History classes for assistance with completing course selection process. Course Request Worksheets are collected at this time.
