2 What is an Endorsement? Texas Education Agency Endorsements consist of a related series of courses that are grouped together by interest or skill set. They provide students with in-depth knowledge of a subject area.

19 Materials Your Student Received Tuesday: 1. Draft Registration Form 2. Blank Registration Form (white and yellow duplicate) 3. Copy of Your Current Personal Graduation Plan 4. List of Common Courses for 2016-2017 5. Advanced/AP Parent/Student Contract (Optional) (white and yellow duplicate)

21 Know Your Graduation Plan Graduation plan descriptions are in the Montgomery High School Course Selection Guide: Page 5 (current Freshmen) Foundation with Endorsement or Distinguished Review your graduation plan using your strengths and post-secondary goals.

24 English English I Level or Advanced English II Level or Advanced English III Level, AP or Dual Credit English IV Level, AP, Dual Credit OR an additional English course

26 Mathematics All students must complete 4 credits in Math Foundation Plan With Endorsement - Algebra I, Geometry, and 2 additional math credits. Choice for the 3 rd Math Credit includes Math Models or Algebra II. Choice for the 4 th Math credit includes: Algebra II, Pre Cal, AQR, Engineering Math, Dual Credit and/or AP offerings. (Check with your current math teacher for his/her recommendation.) Distinguished Plan - Must include the completion of Algebra II. ANY MATH COURSE SELECTED MUST HAVE CURRENT TEACHER’S SIGNATURE.

27 Science All students must complete 4 credits in Science Biology or Advanced Biology IPC, Chemistry, or Advanced Chemistry 3 rd and 4 th Credit options include: PhysicsPathophysiology (CTE) Aquatic SciencePrinciples of Engineering (CTE) AstronomyAP Biology Environmental ScienceAP Chemistry Animal Science (CTE)AP Physics 1, 2 Forensic Science (CTE)AP Environmental Science Anatomy & Physiology (CTE) IPC MUST be taken prior to Chemistry. If you make below an 80 in Biology, you will be PLACED into IPC.

28 Social Studies World Geography Level or Advanced or AP Human Geography World History Level, Advanced or AP U.S. History Level, AP or Dual Credit U.S. Gov’t and Economics Level, AP or Dual Credit

29 Foreign Language Regardless of your graduation plan (Foundation w/ Endorsement, Distinguished), you are required to complete 2 credits of the same foreign language. If you are not currently in a foreign language class this year, you WILL need to register for either Spanish I or French I.

30 Required Electives Required by the state of TEXAS 1 Credit - Fine Arts 1 Credit - Physical Education or equivalent 0.5 Credit – Professional Communications (Speech) Required by MISD 1 Credit – Business Information Management (BIM) 0.5 Credit – Health

31 Electives Elective means “choice”… Electives can be chosen from any subject area. Academic electives MAY be an additional science or math course or going beyond the required courses in an area. Think about your interests and goals, then choose electives according to your Endorsement. You will need at least 3 credits in your Endorsement. DO NOT sign up for an elective that you haven’t completed the required prerequisite(s). DO NOT sign up for an elective OR alternate course that you are not willing to remain in for the upcoming year.

33 Registration Form Use the purple draft copy to write out your course selections. Bring the completed WHITE COPY of the registration form with you to enter your classes in My Zone on Tuesday, February 2nd. Once you have decided on your primary and alternate requests, copy the information from the draft to the white registration form.

34 What It Looks Like Filled Out… Full year courses go all the way across Choose alternate courses wisely Semester courses – two per line Student and parent signatures Don’t forget teacher signatures

35 Advanced/AP Parent/Student Contract- update Is it necessary? YES! This completed, signed contract MUST be submitted with your course selection form if you are choosing to enroll in advanced or Advanced Placement (AP) classes.

36 Points To Remember… Review your course history Review your graduation plan requirements Decide what you need to take to meet your goals Fill out the DRAFT - Double check it!! - ASK QUESTIONS!! CHECK PRE-REQUISITES in the course selection guide Complete Dual Credit requirements (if it applies to you) Complete the white Registration Form Obtain required teacher/sponsor/coach signatures Bring the completed WHITE COPY of the registration form with you to enter your classes in My Zone on February 2nd. All required signatures must be on this form for computer registration.
