4 Arrival & Dismissal It is very important to follow the procedures for the safety of our children. See the FES Parent/Student Handbook. School doors open no earlier than 7:15. Children should be picked up no later than 3:15.

5 Attendance and Tardiness Attendance is a very important factor in your child’s success at school. It is also important to be on time so that your child will not start the day behind and experience frustration. Absences: –Send an excuse for each absence (a doctor’s note if possible). –A doctor’s note is required after 4 consecutive absences.

6 Money Opening School Expenses: $50.00 –AMSTI math and science materials, school T-shirt, special enrichment programs, and technology Snack Bar: –Snacks are $0.60. –Students are responsible for this money until snack time. Lunch Money –Please send lunch money in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, my name, lunch account #, and amount. –It is best if you can pay a month or more at a time. –Example Envelope: Susie Doe L. Davis #12345 $30.00

8 Lunch You’re welcome to eat lunch with us anytime…first 10 minutes of lunch is silent. We will try to leave our room by 10:55 in order to visit the restroom and arrive in the cafeteria by our scheduled lunch time at 11:00.

9 Star Student Student will be the “Star Student” for one week Teacher’s Helper for the week Will display scrapbook page for the week

10 SPELLING & VOCABULARY Spelling test every Friday Practice test are given every Wednesday. Those students who make a 100 do not have to worry with spelling for the rest of the week! One Spelling homework choice each night Vocabulary will be included on the weekly story tests Students can also access the vocabulary PowerPoint presentations on the internet. (there will be a link from my website)

13 READING continued… Class Sets of trade books & AR books DIBELS-tests fluency…let your child read aloud to you periodically. –Beginning of Year Benchmark = 77 wpm –Mid-Year Benchmark = 92 wpm –End-of-Year Benchmark = 110 wpm

14 READING continued… STAR TEST-to obtain reading ability levels A.R. in my classroom –Comprehension score is MOST important –Focus on quality not quantity!! –Classes that do not meet AR guidelines for the year will not participate in fieldtrips.

15 Minimal Books Read Per Classroom Aug. 100Jan. 1200 Sep. 300Feb. 1400 Oct. 550Mar. 1600 Nov. 750Apr. 1800 Dec. 1000May 2000 READING continued… All students must be at the 25 point club at the end of the first nine weeks. All classes must read at an 85% comprehension level.

16 MATH Facts - Students will take a practice facts quiz Mon.- Wed & have facts homework each night. There will be a facts test every Thursday. - It is very important for students to complete facts homework each night.

17 Science & Social Studies The majority of science and social studies grades will come from in class activities Students will receive grades for AMSTI activities. Please encourage your child to pay attention and participate in class.

19 REPORTING GRADES Graded tests will be sent home weekly. Weekly Progress Report Mid-Term Progress Reports: PLEASE sign and return them to me. Report Cards every 9 weeks: PLEASE sign and return them to me.

20 Scholastic Book Orders/ Classroom Library I will send Scholastic Flyers home about once a month. This is a great way for you to get books for your child at great prices. Every dollar spent earns bonus points for our room. I then trade in the bonus points for free books for our classroom library. I will allow students to “check out” books from our classroom library. Please make sure your child returns books that they borrow.

21 OTHER Please send a note when your child will be getting home in a different way. Students should wear their school t-shirt on field trips. I encourage parents to go with us on field trips. We always have lots of fun! Alabama’s Action for Healthy Kids Guidelines –Refer to new state guidelines when purchasing or preparing any food items for class events. Support your child and our class by: –Joining the PTC –Participating in fund raisers –Sending in Box Tops –Assisting room moms with parties and school wide events Check out our school website at www.fairhopeelementary.com for information about our class.
