Compare Fractions SWBAT compare fractions with like denominators and fractions with unlike denominators

Think: Share with a partner What steps would you take if I asked you to compare (tell me which one is bigger) the following fractions? –7/8 or ¾ Least Common Denominator (LCD) –The LCM of the two denominators

Comparing Fractions If they have the same denominator (same size pieces) compare the numerators. If they have different denominators, find the LCD, and rename the fractions Then compare the numerators.

Examples 7/8 and 5/8 14/30 and 26/30 3/5 and 1/4 ¾ and 1/10 11/16 and 22/32 11/20 and 9/15

Try these 4/5 and 12/15 – = 11/21 and 22/42 – = 1/4 and 7/16 – 7/16
