What Is a Flipped Classroom The flipped classroom inverts that model so that there’s more time for 1-on-1 instruction. Student Learns Lesson At Home Student Practices Skills In Class Teacher Is Available If Student Needs Help Day 2 Day 1

Homework – Get the lesson Students view at least 2 videos (or PowerPoints or websites) at home on each concept. – Document videos – in your notebook Author(s) or producer(s). “Title of video.” Date video uploaded. Video URL. Date video watched. – Take notes on video – in your notebook Main ideas Examples Running time of video

Classwork – Practice the lesson Come to class and complete exercises and tasks that demonstrate mastery of the standards. – For Conventions Standards Self-paced completion of assigned textbook chapters and exercises. Study grammar text and compare explanations with those from video notes.

Mastery – What’s expected? Self-check answers in TE Concept mastery = 80 percent Lower score? additional practice with workbooks work with teacher additional videos ASP Create 5 brief projects for Grammar and Conventions domains. – Examples include brochures, posters, foldables, flash cards, etc. Practice tests Do you have another way? Writing Standards Mastery For the Writing Process Standards – Student finds printed examples of concepts, skills, and abilities that have been done well. Sources include: Magazines Newspapers Blogs Social media (Twitter, Facebook, Google+) – Create your own versions of these concepts, using the printed sources as a model when appropriate.

Your Portfolio Maintain a portfolio in class. This will include – samples of exercises with a score of 80% or greater – writing samples with a score of 80% or better Writing Samples Notebook & Review Tracking Sheet Samples of Exercises and Tests
