2. How vaccines work
People are injected with a weakened form of that specific disease.
The body then reacts by making protective substances called "antibodies".
The antibodies are the body's defenders and help kill the germs that enter the body.
Vaccinations protect people from highly contagious diseases that cause sickness, disabilities or even death.

3. History of Vaccines
The first vaccination ever developed was for Smallpox in 1798.
Now there are vaccines for Hepatitis A and B, Polio, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and most recently, Chickenpox.
Vaccines for these diseases have almost completely eliminated outbreaks that once were very common and killed many people.

4. Effectiveness of Vaccines
Vaccines are extremely effective for helping to prevent diseases.
Most children’s immunizations are 90%-100% effective according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to the a study from the Colorado Institute for Health Research, 49 % of children between the ages of 2 and 24 do not receive all of the recommended vaccinations or not any at all.

5. Why some parents don’t get there kids a vaccinated
Some reasons is lack of health insurance, religious beliefs, and medical concerns.
Some people have had allergic reactions to vaccines or their preservatives.
The only disease that has been completely eliminated so far is Smallpox.
The overall risks from vaccines are very minimal compared to the effects of not getting vaccinated.
Today, most diseases are at their lowest levels in decades, because of vaccines.
