What is an ADCP Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler
Measures wave and current velocities and direction through the specified water column using an acoustic signal. Eularian system (measures at one point over time) Workhorse Sentinel ADCP

ADCP Set up Prior to the deployment the ADCP had to be configured in the set up software and loaded onto the machine. The ADCP had to be tested prior to deployment to ensure that all function are working properly.
6
ADCP configuration Blanking distance: 0.15 m (15 cm)
Bin size: 0.05 m (5 cm) Sampling Frequency: 1 Hz, every 5 mins Deployed: 10/18/07 12:54 pm for 31 days Pulse Coherent Mode (mode 11)
7
ADCP Deployment Information
The ADCP was deployed in an aluminum frame approximately 0.5 m x 0.5 m held down by 2 lead weights approx 50 lbs each. The frame was buried in slightly under 0.5 m of sediment, approximately ¾ of the frame was buried.
8
Troubleshooting The ADCP was originally deployed for a 3 day period for testing purposes. Problems that were encountered include: It was not in the proper mode Bottom Tracking was needed to recognize the surface The surface was not being recognized by the instrument Rods were bend/ broken that may have caused movement
9
Data Processing The WinADCP program was used to export the data from the binary file to a convenient text file that can be loaded into Matlab.

Data Analysis: Velocity Direction

Further Analysis Discharge rates can be calculated using the magnitude and direction of the velocity. A similar procedure can be done to look at seasonal variability of the tidal influence and discharge rates.
