WHY ARE THEY CALLED HEDGEHOGS? Because they root through hedges for food and make a grunting noise like a pig

ABOUT HEDGEHOGS They are nocturnal and come out at night. They sleep in a nest under bushes. There are 15 species of hedgehogs. There may be up to 500 fleas on a hedgehog.

MORE FACTS ABOUT HEDGEHOGS Hedgehogs have between 1 and 11 babies at a time and soon become covered in prickles. They only stay with their mum for 6 weeks. Including the tail, a hedgehog is 11 inches long. They hibernate in winter.

WHY DO THEY HAVE SPINES? They have 5000 spines Each spine lasts for a year When they sense danger they roll into a ball because of a special muscle in their bodies.

WHAT DO THEY EAT? Snakes Worms Frogs Snails Mice

HEDGEHOG PICTURES Hedgehogs are really cute The most famous hedgehog is Sonic the Hedgehog who was super fast and liked collecting rings.
