House Bill 5 (HB 5) Beginning in the 2014-15 school year, a school must ensure that each student, on entering 9 th grade, indicates in writing an endorsement that the student intends to earn.

House Bill 5 (HB 5) Foundation Plan (22 credits) – NCISD requires 26 credits – Students graduating under the Foundation Plan (with no endorsement) will be approved on a case-by-case basis during junior or senior year of high school. Foundation + Endorsement (30 credits) – this is the recommended graduation plan – STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) – Business & Industry – Public Service – Arts & Humanities – Multidisciplinary

Foundation – Statutory Requirements (NCISD - 26 credits) English Language Arts – 4 credits – English 1, English 2, English 3, Advanced English Math – 3 credits – Algebra 1, Geometry, Advanced Math Science – 3 credits – Biology, IPC or Advanced Science, Advanced Science Social Studies – 3 credits – US History, Government, Economics, World Geography OR World History OR combined WH/WG course (NCISD does not offer the combined course) PE – 1 credit Languages Other Than English – 2 credits in same language Fine Arts – 1 credit Electives – 5 credits (+4 additional classes)

Distinguished Level of Achievement Total of 4 credits in mathematics, which must include Algebra 2 Total of 4 credits in science Curriculum requirements for at least one endorsement ** A student must earn distinguished level of achievement to be eligible for top 10% automatic admission.

Performance Acknowledgements Earned for outstanding performance in: – A dual credit course (at least 12 hours with grade of B or higher) – Bilingualism and biliteracy – A score of 3 or higher on an AP test – Outstanding performance on SAT, PSAT, ACT: – For earning a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry certification or license.
