3 ATTENTION: ALL PUPILS WHO USE SCHOOL BUSES In cases of severe snow/ice you can check with your bus operator that morning in case pick up points have been changed. In severe weather buses may be unable to enter streets and housing estates due to roads not being gritted or operators deeming them as unsafe. If this happens buses will pick up on main roads.

4 Thursday lunchtime: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Questions A quiz on the Harry Potter books, starting at 1.15. Teams of 6 maximum. Students from all year groups welcome…and staff Harry Potter Week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtime: Harry Potter Cinema A special screening of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in the library classroom. Starting at 1.15 on Monday and continuing each day Thursday after school: Muggle Quidditch Come along to the Games Hall after school to learn and play muggle quidditch. Wear your PE kit…or a Harry Potter costume! Thursday after school: Lasswade Library: A Chamber of Secrets Lots of Harry Potter activities, photo booth, treasure hunt, games… From 3.30 – 6pm

5 Tots to Teens Lunchtime drop in We will be offering extra study support for Tots to Teens students on a Monday from 1.15pm - 1.45pm. Come along to the Community Learning and Development office where we can discuss any work, assessments, chat about placement and catch up.

6 Modern Apprenticeship in Procurement City of Edinburgh Council How would you like to assist the Procurement team in buying everything from vehicles and new schools to the fairground rides for Edinburgh’s Christmas festivities? The modern apprentice would be part of the Commercial and Procurement team who are responsible for buying all of the goods and services that the Council requires. You must be interested in Data and will use your existing IT skills and talents and learn lots of new ones during your time with the department. This could be the start of a very interesting career and you may have the opportunity to progress onto further training. 13 S5 Oxford and Cambridge University Conference 2016 This is a full day conference on 21 st March, for students in S5 who are interested in finding out more about studying at Oxford or Cambridge Universities. Taster lectures; Information about applying; student life; finance You must be studying 5 Highers this year, with A/B passes predicted. Places must be booked in advance. 15 S5 Sutton Trust University Summer Schools 2016 This is a fantastic opportunity to experience a week in the life of a University Student: attending lectures and tutorials as well as recreational activities. You will be given advice on your University application You should be first generation in your family to attend University You must have achieved at least 5 A/B passes at N5 and be studying relevant Highers It is entirely free and is available at Edinburgh & St Andrews Universities as well as top English Universities. 17 S1-S2 Masterchef Cookery Club The S1-S2 cookery club will be starting back 2 nd of February but this time with a Masterchef theme! Every Tuesday 3:45pm – 5.00pm (approx) in the H.E Dept. A variety of sweet and savoury dishes will be made with the cost of £1.50 each week. If you are interested collect a consent letter from Miss McDonald and return ASAP. Spaces filled up very quickly last time.

18 S4- S6 Debating Club: Debate For all those interested in debating, we will be holding another debate on Monday after school. The motion: This house believes that Donald Trump should be banned from entering the UK. Come along to Room 224 to take part. All welcome.

19 Nick Sharratt Illustration Prize The competition will be judged by Nick Sharratt! (and the winner will get a great prize) Submit a single illustration, an illustrated story or your very own picture book... Hand your entries to Kat in the library by Monday 1st February This is an exclusive competition only for LHS students Nick writes and draws picture books, he also does all the illustrations for Jacqueline Wilson books

20 S2 Museum Trip For those attending the Science Department trip to the Museum on Monday the 1 st of February, make sure you turn up with: Change for the bus Packed lunch Full school uniform Meet Miss Gardner in the Atrium for 8.30AM where you will be registered and sorted into groups before we get the bus.

25 Meeting on Friday break for all pupils who are taking part in the Scottish Schools Swimming Championship this Saturday. Meeting with Mrs Burge in the PE department this Friday. All swimmers must attend!!!

26 Swaziland 2016 The next round of fitness testing needs to be completed by the middle of February. It is compulsory that you attend one of the sessions below. You must see Miss Lyon to sign up for either: Wednesday 3rd February Lunchtime Friday 5th February after school (12:15pm - 2:15pm) Both sessions will take place in the Games Hall

27 Visit to Shanghai, China In the October holidays there will be an opportunity for S3 and S4 pupils to visit Shanghai The visit will be a home stay with families from our twin school Tianlin No. 3 Middle School If interested give your contact details to Mr. Mitchell A parents information evening will be held on Thursday 4 th February at 7.15pm

28 Visit to Beijing and Tianjin, China In the summer (10 th – 27 th July 2016) each hub can send 5 pupils on the Confucius Institute of Scottish Schools Immersion Course. Pupils who would like to go on this trip need to confirm their interest by Friday 26 th February with Mr Mitchell

29 Visit to Hong Kong, China In the October Holiday as part of Morrison’s Academy initiative there will be a trip to Hong Kong to compete in the Rayleigh- Wilson Challenge (a 24 hour running relay) Interested students should give contact details to Mr Chisholm

30 Muggle Quidditch As part of Harry Potter Book Night 2016 Thursday 4 th February 3.30pm in the Games Hall Learn the rules Get some training Play a few games Students and staff welcome. Sign up in the library now...there are limited spaces.

34 Well done to both S1 teams (red and black) playing against Clifton Hall and Dunbar at the weekend. It is a huge achievement to have two teams playing!!

35 Lasswade Rugby U15’s Well done to Lasswade U15’s who won their 8 th game in a row against Dunbar at the weekend!
