Human Services & Public Safety Policy Committee Mission & Role Policy Advisory Body: To the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) Board of Directors. Purpose:Develop and maintain all policies, plans, agreements and programs, other than those specifically assigned to other units within COG, concerning human services and public safety issues. Program Areas: Law enforcement, Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management, Corrections, Animal Services, Aging, Public Health, Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Foster Care, Child Care, and Housing programs. 2

Human Services & Public Safety Policy Committee Membership All 22 COG members – 1 representative Jurisdictions > 300,000 people 1 additional representative: –To represent elected executive OR legislative body [DC, FX, MC, LC, PG, PW] Maryland legislature Virginia legislature Other interested parties as HSPSPC may invite to participate 3
