3 Duration : 13 th – 14 th day of the sixth lunar month Importance Guan Khao Thip (making magic rice) is a ritual that people do to think of the Lord Buddha and the time when Nang Suchada made Khao Thip (magic rice) on the 14 th day of the waxing moon. Then she offered the rice to the Lord Buddha just one day before he became enlightened.

4 It is believed that there is a lot of benefits so that Buddhists make magic rice to offer as a worshipful thing to the Lord Buddha, to admire his honor and to show their respect. The magic rice is called “Khao Thip Mathupayas” in Thai. It is also believed that if it is completely made, it will be auspicious to the people who make and eat it. It is used to offer to the gods. Anyone who has magic rice will be lucky and healthy.

6 Ritual Ingredients used for making magic rice are fresh milk, (Now people use sweetened condensed milk instead.), honey, molasses, licorice, sugar, palm sugar, popped rice, unripe rice kernels roasted and pounded flat, cereals (grains) such as beans, sesame seeds, melon seeds, taro, sweet potatoes, lotus seeds, ripe coconut, young coconuts, and fresh or dried fruit such as mangos, bananas, durians, sappodilas, longans, oranges, jackfruits etc. It depends in each community.
