REMEMORIZEEEEEEEE. By: Lacee Abelson Mr. Leingangs 5 th Per. science class

Questionnnnnnnn How does gender effect ones ability to rememorize random words.

Abstractttttttt The purpose of my project is to see who has better memory. I believed that girls would have a better memory. There were no major errors in my project that could have affected my data collecting.when I completed my project I learned girls have better memory then boys. The things I could have done differently were to give thee students more time to study the words

Procedureeeeeeee 1.One person is given a list of 30 words. 2.The stopwatch was set for one minute. 3.The person studied for exactly one minute. 4.The person gave the list back. 5.The person called out the words that they remembered. 6.The list was use as a checklist and the words were checked off as they called them out. 7.After they were finished calling out the words that they remembered, the percentage of the words that they remembered was calculated. 8.These steps were repeated until 20 males and 20 females had been tested. 9. Repeat numbers 2-9 for trials 2 and 3

Hypothesissssssss I predict that the female gender will have the better memory

Variablessssssss Cv: The person studied for exactly one minute. Rv: how many words the person remembers Mv:gender

Background infoooooooo Based on what I have learned girls have more white matter and boys have more gray matter in there brains which means boys are better at math, but females are better at making connections and drawing conclusions when dealing with the information being processed, meaning that girls are better with words than boys, and are also better at dealing with complex, non-math related situations. Boys heads are at least 2% larger and there brains are 10% -12% larger then girls this because boys are generally larger, and need more neurons to control their greater muscle mass. Girls have more developed neuropil, the space between cell bodies, then boys, which means they have more connections in there brain. The volume of a specific area of the Hypothalmus is larger in heterosexual boys than in girls and homosexual men, which begs the question of whether or not homosexuality is, in fact, biological. The orbitofrontal lobe deals with the controlling of emotion and the amygdala controls the production of emotions. The orbitofrontal-amygdala ratio is larger in girls, which suggests that girls have more control over their emotions. Girls have more deep limbic system then boys this implies that they are more “in touch” with there feelings and can express them self’s more and easier. As well as being able to relate to others better and generally more social. This also implies that depression or other emotional disorders are more common in girls then in boys. Women have a better sense of smell than men. The part of the brain called the corpus callosum, which connects the two halves of the brain, is 32% larger in girls than in boys.
