2 They wanted to : Reform and purify the Church Purify their own lives of any Catholic residue The Puritans were one branch of dissenters who decided that the Church of England needed a changement. Puritans were originally from the middle class. They follow: The ideas of John Calvin, the leader in the Reformation, who gave rise to Protestantism.

3 Puritanism was a movement that arose in England in second half of 16th century during the English Reformation. The puritan movement born by the thought of religious reformers such as John Calvin, whose founded the Calvinism, a religious movement within Puritanism.

4 John Calvin (1509-1564)was the son of a lawyer. He was the principal figure in the development of the system of Christian theology later called Calvinism.

6 Puritans gave importance to direct teaching of Bible. It was God's true law and it provided a plan for living. Puritans didn’t want a mediation, they wanted a direct relationship with God without the confines of church authority. They believed that man existed for the glory of God They worked a lot because they believed in progress. Puritans believed in the doctrine of predestination that kept all Puritans constantly working to do good in this life to be chosen and to be saved.

7 They believed in the Parable of the Talents Puritans were against every kind of entertainment and disapproved celebrations because they distracted people from spiritual dimension. They believed in the doctrine of predestination but salvation was in part the product of human choice. They claimed sobriety of vestments worn by priest in virtue of austere life. The Protestant work ethic was the belief that hard work was an honour to God.
