2 Background Tonight: A “Royal Official” John 1:9 There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man… John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name

3 The Need John 4:46-47 Therefore He came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a royal official whose son was sick at Capernaum. [47] When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and was imploring Him to come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.

4 Christ’s Reaction John 4:48 So Jesus said to him, "Unless you people see signs and wonders, you simply will not believe.“ –John 4:47 …was imploring Him to come down and heal his son… –John 4:49 The royal official said to Him, "Sir, come down…" John 12:37 But though He had performed so many signs before them, yet they were not believing in Him.

5 Christ’s Expectation John 4:50 Jesus said to him, "Go; your son lives." Rev. 3:20 'Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.

7 The Result John 4:51-53 As he was now going down, his slaves met him, saying that his son was living. [52] So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him." [53] So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, "Your son lives"; and he himself believed and his whole household.
