1 BCM U-PHONE ENGLISH NEWSPAPER COURSE LESSON GUIDELINE

2 T his is a blended course. (Online preview + On the phone class + Offline Essay writing) Therefore teachers should let students know rules below first. S tudents' Rule 1. Read the article first. If you don’t read the article in advance, this course won't work at all. 2. Attend simple Essay assignment faithfully. No matter how short it is, write your opinion every time. T eacher's Rule 1. Read the article first. If you don’t read the article in advance, this course won't work at all, either. 2. Lead a fun class and Praise students always. 3. If students speak eagerly about one thing, you can make students talk. Even though you have lots of things to do during the class, speaking freely and delightfully is way better important. 4. Induce students speak more than teachers. Ask many related questions as many as possible. 4 CASE 1 ) No Prints. No proof Reading 1. Tell students whole story about the news article. E.g.) I will tell you the story of today’s article briefly. 2. Lead free talking class about that article. E.g.) Have you ever taken a taxi in a foreign country? Was it expensive? What do you think about it? 3. Ask their opinion about that article. E.g.) Do you think this system is helpful to foreigners? CASE 2) No Prints. With Proof Reading 1. Ask students whole story about the news article. E.g.) Can you remember the article you read? What was today’s article headline? What was today’s article about? 2. Lead free talking class about it using their memory of the article. E.g.) How did you feel when you read that article? What do you think about it? Do you think this system is helpful to foreigners? CASE 3) With Prints. No proof Reading 1. Instead of summarizing each paragraph, try to make students understand the article fully first by making students read the article. E.g.) Would you read the article loudly? 2. Have students summarize each paragraph. (If you can't finish this within allotted time, you can choose 2-3 of them.) 3. Ask comprehension questions regarding each paragraph. 4. 7 Lesson Day 3. Picture Description Making Headlines Free Talking Wrap-up Greeting & Check After greeting, teacher should check this. 1. Can you see picture now? How to… 1. Have students describe one picture. If students can describe the picture in detail, just let them describe it. However students have hard time to describe it, give them more detail questions. E.g.) What do you think men in the picture are doing? Can you guess where they are from? What colors can you see on this picture? * Free Talking *The most important thing in this part is to have students speak freely and delightfully by using short news. Ask many related questions as many as possible* 2.Correct their mistakes simply. (Grammar/ Pronunciation) 1.Wrap up should be covered before you finish. (General greeting and reminding students to read article in advance are needed) 1.Have students summarize the short article briefly. 2.Ask some comprehension questions regarding the article. 3.Have students make their own headlines. Read headline articles to students, and ask them the story about the short news. E.g.) I will read the article listen carefully, and guess what the story is. 3. Have students guess the headline of that you read. E.g.) What can be the best headline in this short news? 4. Lead free talking class about the short news. E.g.) Do you like romantic movie? Do you know Lindsay Lohan? How do you feel about her? CASE 2) No Prints. With Proof Reading 1. Ask students about the picture. ( If students can't remember the picture at all, describe it briefly and tell them to check the picture on the web) E.g.) Can you remember the picture? What was that?"
