3. A. Voice 1. Project your voice so that you can be heard clearly. 2. Be natural and do not develop a “preaching voice” that seems “other worldly.” 3. Use variety in intensity for the sake of emphasis and to avoid monotony.

4. 4. Pronounce words clearly almost to the point of overdoing it and avoid slurring words.

5. B. Language 1. Try to identify and weed out your own pet words and phrases. 2. Avoid asking the congregation too many questions. 3. Avoid colloquialism that may not be understood by a multi-cultural audience.

6. 4. Look for alternative ways to say things to avoid repetition. 5. Work on the pronunciation of biblical names and places. 6. Do not feel that you must announce the points of your sermon but if you do be consistent. 7. Announce points when dealing with steps of action.

11. G. Atmosphere 1. Make sure that the things that affect people’s ability to listen are addressed (e.g. heating, lighting, seating, extraneous noise, etc.).
