Vardamn “My mother is a fish.” Confuses the death of his mother with the fish he caught. Recognizes both the fish and his mother go through a transformative process, going from being alive to not alive. Death: Although Vardaman can understand that both the fish and his mother have changed, he does not have the ability to understand what death really means. Bored Holes: Vardaman is afraid that Addie will not be able to breathe in the coffin. He bores holes so she can breathe. He also mistakenly bores holes into her face. Rhetorical Style: Identifies the world through differentiation, fish and not fish Youngest Bundren Between 7-10 years old. His immaturity is refelcted in his language and perspective.
