8 D I E - Describe Interpret Evaluate Describe – what are they studying (comprehension) e.g. is it a book, painting, biography etc Interpret – what is it saying about Oliver Cromwell? Is he a hero? Is he a villain? Is he both? (comprehension & inference) Evaluate – Marrying the Description and Interpretation together to come to a conclusion. Can a painting be trusted? Did the author know Cromwell? Was he writing after Cromwell’s death? (Analysis)
