Receiving a Prize of this caliber is a great honor but Receiving a prize that bears Pief’s name makes it doubly special As a scientist and administrator, I strove to emulate Pief’s unflinching dedication to: Above all, the science must be outstanding Technical innovation moves science/humanity forward People are the most critical resource: respect & nurture them International cooperation is essential to science Never allow expediency to undermine integrity: stand firm for what is “right”

This led to at least 21e+e- B Factory concepts and proposals (19 Y (4S) + 2 Z0) and several hadronic machine approaches (HERA-B,.. Pier Oddone’s concept of using an asymmetric e+e- collider to boost the distance between the two decay vertices was, in the end, the most successful approach.
