2 The Canadian Hazus User Group meets on the third Wednesday of each month to share knowledge on natural hazard risk assessment and the application of the Hazus loss estimation software in Canada. Natural Resources Canada’s National-Scale Geohazard Risk Project of the Public Safety Geoscience Program supports the forum. Today’s meeting will be facilitated by Malaika Ulmi (mulmi@nrcan.gc.ca). The meeting materials are posted on www.hazuscanada.ca.www.hazuscanada.ca Introduction 2

12 Risk Assessment Way Forward Some Context National Disaster Mitigation Plan has mandate to “identify and mitigate high-risk flood areas” National Scale Geohazard Risk project has mandate to “support research of best practices” for risk mitigation NRCan currently supports risk assessment tools, including Hazus Time is right to check-in and evaluate the existing risk tools

13 Risk Assessment Way Forward Project Plan Between now and 5 th February we will be looking for users (current or potential) of risk assessment tools in Canada – YOU!!! We will be conducting 30- minute interviews (by phone, internet, in-person) to help define user needs. These will be used to develop the measures that will be used to compare tools Next month we will be targeting Hazus Canada users to learn more about its strengths and weaknesses
