6 th Grade Science and Social Studies

Class Expectations To follow directions. To keep a well- organized notebook. To bring all necessary supplies to class each day. To be on ones best behavior at all times. To do his /her best work each and every day.

Typical Student Day in Social Studies and Science. Information Board - Class Preparation - Today’s Objective - Essential Questions BCA or Warm Up– Beginning Class Activity Guided Lesson Activities Homework.

Interactive Notebook School information book (must have) Table to contents will be updated every day. We work with students on organization all throughout our classes. Students will learn how important it is to keep track of their work. Everything goes in nothing comes out.

Social Studies curriculum Geography Overview Unit 1 - Introduction to Social Studies Unit 2 – Early Human Unit 3 – River Valley Civilizations Unit 4 - Classical Civilizations (Greece and Rome) Unit 5 – Collapse and Rebirth Each Unit is divided into smaller topics. These will be included in the students’ interactive notebooks.

Science Curriculum Scientific Method Plate Tectonics Volcanoes and Earthquakes Volcanoes and Earthquakes Rocks and Minerals The following units of study will be found on my website. Resources will be added as we progress through the year. Soil Unit Waves and Sound Unit Energy Unit Space Unit Ecology Unit

Labs/Experiments: Designing hands-on experiments is a vital component of Science classes. In order for this to happen we do need materials donated on a regular basis. To organize donations we use a website called: Signupgenius.com Mr. Tubb will send emails through his list with Sign-up Genius. Mrs. Bauer uses Remind.com and website link.

Homework Given every class. (Studying..) Having practice everyday is important. Double check your child’s Agenda Stay connected to the Parent Portal online grade book (if need a password go to Charlotte Mecklenburg School website parent’s page.) You can set up your own account: https://cms.powerschool.com/public/ https://cms.powerschool.com/public/ Be checking homework online on teacher’s website. Study notes each night for 20 minutes Codes for absent or missing work are recorded in powerschool.

Tests / Projects Tests and Projects will be announced at least a week in advance. Study Guides are given for tests Project guidelines/expectations are clearly given (rubrics) Opportunities to improve formal assessment grades under 79% can be requested by students. This will be determined by the teacher at the time of the assessment.
