There are four different kinds of sentences.

Declarative Sentence A declarative sentence makes a statement. It ends with a period. He likes pepperoni pizza. The umbrella is green. Mrs. Smith is a teacher.

Interrogative Sentence An interrogative sentence asks a question. It ends with a question mark. Do you like pepperoni pizza? Have you seen my umbrella? Who is your teacher?

Wh Questions: Question words ask about What/ Which a thing Ex. What is your favourite pastime? Which is your bag?

Question words ask about Where a place Ex. Where do you come from? Wh Questions:

Question words ask about Who a person Ex. Who is your favourite singer ? Wh Questions:

Question words ask about When the time Ex. When do you get up everyday? Wh Questions:

Question words ask about How the way you do sth Ex. How do you go to school? Wh Questions:

Question words ask about Why the reason Ex. Why are you late for school ? Wh Questions:

*Notes: -“what” many possible answers Ex. What’s your favourite colour ? - “which” only a few possible answers Ex. Which do you prefer, black or white ?

Exclamatory Sentence An exclamatory sentence shows strong feeling. It ends with an exclamation point. Hooray! Wow! That’s great news!

Examples of exclamatory sentences What a game that was! Our team is great! We won in the last minute! No one can beat us! We are the best!

Imperative Sentence An imperative sentence gives a command. It ends with a period. Go to your room. Throw me the ball. Bob, please close the door.
