There are four Kinds of Sentence Declarative Interrogative Imperative Exclamatory

Declarative Sentence A declarative sentence tells something Ends with a period Example: –Caterpillars change once a year.

Interrogative An interrogative sentence asks a question. Ends with a question mark Example –Did you catch a butterfly?

Imperative Sentence Tells someone to do something Ends with a period Examples –Tell me about caterpillars. –Please speak slowly.

Exclamatory Sentence Shows strong feeling Ends with an exclamation mark Examples –How pretty the butterfly looks! –I like the colors!

Strategy Some sentences can be either exclamatory or declarative sentences. It is the writer’s choice. When you write a sentence, decide whether you want to express strong felling or surprise. If so, use an exclamation point.
