Quick Start Expectations 1.Fill in planner and HWRS HW: p. 100, #17-19, #25, 26, 28, 31 2.Get a signature on HWRS 3.On desk: journal, calculator, HWRS, pencil, pen 4.Warm Up: MSA p. 110, #48
2
Warm Up MSA p. 110 #48 48. Solve each equation. Check your answers. a. 2(x + 5) = 18 b. 2(x + 5) = x – 8 c. 2(x + 5) = xd. 2(x + 5) = -15 X = 4 X = -18 X = -10X = -12.5
5
Each group has the same slope (the same coefficient) Group 1 : has a slope of 3, but different y-intercepts Group 2 : has a slope of -2, but different y-intercepts
6
Group 1Group 2
7
Group 1 Group 2 Positive slope Negative slope Same Slope + different y-intercepts = PARALLEL LINES!
8
Example: Tons of possible answers! y = -xy = -2 – xy = -x + 3y = -x + 7 They all have a slope of -1.
9
The slopes (coefficient of x) are negative reciprocals of each other. (Opposite and inverse)
10
The lines meet at right angles, so they are PERPENDICULAR lines!
11
Possible Set: Tons of possible answers! y = -2 - x and y = x All lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals of each other! (opposite and inverse) They do NOT have to have the same y-intercept! y = 5 - 3x and y = 1 x + 5 3
14
The equations in each pair are equivalent, so their graphs will be the same!
