State, County, and City ► A state is a nation or territory considered as an organized political community under one government. ► A county is a political and administrative division of a state, providing certain local governmental services. ► A city is a large town (Phoenix). ► A capital is the most important city or town of a country or region, usually its seat of government and administrative center.

The Northeast ► The Northeast region includes; Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.

The Northeast ► It is the nation’s most economically developed, densely populated, and culturally diverse region. ► New York City is the biggest city in this region. ► Other major cities include Boston, Philadelphia, and Newark.

The South ► Also referred to as “The Land of Dixie” or “The Bible Belt”. ► The South region includes Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The South ► The region is known for its culture and history, having developed its own customs, musical styles, and varied cuisines. ► The Dallas-Fort Worth area has the highest population. ► Other major cities include; Atlanta, Miami, Memphis, New Orleans, and Houston.

The Midwest ► The Midwest region includes; Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

The Midwest ► Economically the region is balanced between heavy industry and agriculture, with finance and services such as medicine and education being increasingly important. ► Chicago is the biggest city in the region. ► Other cities include; Minneapolis, Detroit, Milwaukee, Omaha, and St. Louis.

The West ► The West region includes; Montana, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Alaska, and Hawaii.

The West ► The region is culturally diverse and known for its free spirit, unique cuisine, desert landscape, and it’s “Cowboy Culture” which boomed after Westward Expansion. ► The biggest city in the West is Los Angeles. ► Other major cities include Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, Phoenix, Denver, and Las Vegas.
