6 Closed Case Files Each team will receive one copy of the case files for the myth. Each case file contains: –SOURCE #1: Page numbers to refer to Edith Hamilton’s Mythology –SOURCE #2: An original version of the myth from Ovid in his famous poem Metamorphoses –SOURCE #3: A famous painting featuring some of the characters of the myth –SOURCE #4: You may have additional files.

7 Ovid’s Metamorphoses Metamorphoses is a long narrative poem written in Latin by the famous Roman poet, Ovid around 8 A.D. You will read excerpts from a translation by Charles Martin. He stays true to the verse form of the poem. This is a challenging text. Collaborate and ask questions to understand the poem.

8 “Read” The Painting In your case files, you will have a painting that you must “read.” –Analyze what is in the foreground (the front of the painting) and what is in the background (the back of the painting). –Analyze the use of color and symbolism. –How are the characters portrayed in the paintings? Is it how you imagined the myth? What artistic interpretations exist in the painting?
