A broad definition of entrepreneurship: Innovation for commercial purposes or value creation in a broader sense. That is to say a process, in which a person sees an opportunity, has an idea and implements it, with the result that the idea creates value. The creation does not need to be financial in nature. The creation in an existing enterprise of new processes and/or products that can be of value to the existing enterprise or organisation. Starting one’s own business and putting it into operation.

The Foundation for Entrepreneurship From ABC to PhD : A national knowledge centre for education and training in entrepreneurship at all levels A private foundation with board members mainly from the business sector 2010-2012: Government grant of DKK 25 million per annum Support educational institutions at every level to improve their commitment to education and training in entrepreneurship

The Danish Partnership Partnership across 4 ministries 4 annually meetings with the Foundation Coordinate legislation and initiatives Provide the government with a better decision-making basis Follow-up on performance contracts

How did we get there?

What did we learn? Time consuming It is important to build trust between the partners Ensure who is responsible for the implementation of the strategy, if possible build on existing initiatives Create one national entity to ensure coherence in the entire educational system Strong commitment from the business sector is important

Status after the 1st year? 100,000 or 8.4 pct. of all students have received entrepreneurship education in the period 2009 – 2010 Examination of the Danish legalisation on education Mapping of the level of entrepreneurship education and training at all Danish educational institutions 2 national entrepreneurial universities are established – The Foundation provided counselling to the applicants Annual Education conference during Global Entrepreneurship week 2010 Scholarship - Proof of concept and visits to Danish entrepreneurs in Silicon valley

What is next? In 2011 120,000 students will receive entrepreneurship education or training In 2011 900 teachers at all levels will receive training or participate in events or Investigation of the effects of entrepreneurship education throughout the whole educational system National events – to raise awareness A Nordic collaboration – to create critical mass and strengthen exchange of best practice Talent development programmes for particularly talented young people
