Who are the users? BioExcelCoEGSSECAMEoCoE academia and industry policy makers, public bodies, NGOs, industries, academia, SME extended CECAM academic community + industrial associates researchers of meteo, material, water & fusion ESiWACEMaXNoMaDPOP Climate scientists & centres performing weather prediction ICT, energy, health pharma, transportation manufacturing Academic & industrial researchers and the public Code developers interested on assessment of applications
2
How close to exascale? BioExcelCoEGSSECAMEoCoE Exascale target varies between the codes due to the nature of the algorithms Hard to estimate not primarily aimed at exascale - ESiWACEMaXNoMaDPOP Currently climate modeling is far away from exascale doubling scalability of codes every 18-24 months Massively large-scale materials information will lead to exascale Performance analysis is a mandatory step to move real codes to exascale
3
Co-Design? BioExcelCoEGSSECAMEoCoE work with h/w manufacturers for early porting & optimization on general & accelerator systems Co-Design with selected vendors outside of the consortium -- ESiWACEMaXNoMaDPOP - part of the co-design is carried out with a SME Apache Flink system, preliminary results expected in 6 months Analysing performance of applications gives insight for co-design

PRACE 0.5% for HPC CoEs BioExcelCoEGSSECAMEoCoE large-scale benchmarking / verification of supported software At a project advanced stage Under discussion (3 PRACE centers are partners) large scale performance analysis & code testing ESiWACEMaXNoMaDPOP Evaluation of PRACE software stack for Earth System modeling internal development & specific enabling actions for HPC users calculations demanded by the users, re- computation of suspected low-veracity data large scale studies / or when user has no resources available
