Aim: How are the two basic cell types different? DO NOW: List 2 similarities between & 1 difference for both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
2
Prokaryotic Cells Smaller in size No nucleus no membrane-bound organelles but have ribosomes Organisms made up of this type of cell are called prokaryotes Ex.) bacteria Similar to the 1 st organisms on Earth
3
Eukaryotic Cells Larger in size Have nucleus Have membrane-bound organelles, including ribosomes Most organisms are made up of this type of cell & are called eukaryotes Ex.) protists (algae), fungi (mushrooms, mold, yeast), plants & animals
7
Similarities of Both Cell Types (Guided Practice) Question: What do both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells have in common?
8
Venn Diagram Create a Venn Diagram, listing both similarities and differences of both cell types.
9
Homework On construction paper or printer paper, draw or trace the two different basic cell types and label the structures within both cell types. You can use textbook page 192 as reference.
