1 December 1999 Frame and Assembly Planning Status E. Anderssen, D. Bintinger, M. Gilchriese and F. Goozen LBNL W. Miller Hytec, Inc

2 December 1999 2 Next Steps on Frame Disk frame prototype will be completed shortly and properties measured. Want to move towards final design => identify additional open issues that affect frame design and fabrication These include –additional prototype steps(our current priority) Prototype disk mounts(1) Prototype end support stiffener and related area(2) Prototype barrel support cone(3) –services routing(see Eric’s talk also) –SCT mounting interface –strain relief of services –final assembly

3 December 1999 3 Overview Animation with description may be found at http://pxs.lbl.gov/~goozen/assdetset.html

4 December 1999 4 Implications for Frame Design Mostly strain relief Need support pieces for strain relief of disk services connected to frame inside frame => clips attached to frame or holes in frame panels to grab custom plastic or composite pieces holding pigtails, cables, pipes –Disk pigtails currently planned to hold active optical components => need stiffening and protection that are coupled securely to strain relief. –Detail 3D CAD model of this region underway Covers/strain relief of barrel services on disk frame section - what do these look like? Strain relief at ends of center frame section for services - not clear what this looks like - additional hard points in panel ends? Strain relief at ends of disk section - integrated into end stiffening plate - design started(see Eric). For final assembly….additional hard points at ends, integrated into end stiffening plate or something else to allow spiders to grab from ends.
