Tuesday, January 5 th, 2016 DO: TODAY WE WILL LEARN ABOUT EARTH HISTORY STARTING WITH THE CAMBRIAN ERA. DQ: WHAT DO YOU THINK LIFE WAS LIKE DURING THE CAMBRIAN ERA? Materials: Pencil Notebook Computer Agenda: Pre-Cambrian Reading/Notes Cambrian Era Notes Reading Time-Sequencing Activity Geologic Time-line assignment
5
Vocab: Sequential Time: the order of events in a sequence (ex: you woke up before your brushed your teeth.) Numerical Time: The actual time that events occurred. (Ex: I woke up at 5:30 & brushed my teeth at 5:33.)

Paleozoic Era & Cambrian Period 542-488 mya Cambrian Explosion of life forms Skeletonized animals (exoskeletons) Early animal diversification Diversification of trilobites Burgess Shale fauna (fossils of soft bodied animals) Warming climates Plate tectonics

Was also the most successful organism. Adaptation: a change or the process of change by which an organism or species becomes better suited to its environment.

Cambrian Reading Open X:\STUDENTS\7th grade\7C\Merritt\1st Period\Earth History\Earth History Reading – Cambrian.doc Read the article “Cambrian” Add any significant NEW information HIGHLIGHT any information already in your notes that is also said in the reading. Google images of ANY underlined, bolded, or italics word/organism – copy a picture of that organism in your notes (make sure to label the picture w/ the name)

Time Sequencing Practice Objectives: 1.Students will place events in sequence and assign relative times to each event. 2.Students will gain an understanding of relative and numerical time. 3.Students will become familiar with the methods used by scientists to develop the Geologic Time Scale. Geologic Timeline Format – ASSESSMENT GRADE Timeline must fit on the large-size construction paper Timeline must follow the flow map format. The timeline must be to scale and contain a key. Title top and center and all lines must be drawn with a ruler. ***Your name and period on the top, front, right hand corner*** Eon, Era, and Period should be labeled on the bottom. Time intervals must be even and appropriate for the range of time being represented. Make a rough draft or plan on a separate sheet of paper. The paper must have complete colored illustrations with backgrounds, color printed pictures, labels and information of organisms from the time period. Pictures should include several landforms, plants, and animals in each time period Majority of pictures must be hand drawn. Captions for each period must be typed. Captions must include the following: o Climate (blue) o Animals ( Red) o Plants ( Green) o Landforms ( yellow) Organize information so that the viewer can find different kinds of information easily. For example, all the information on plants is typed in green or on a green frame.
